How does your driving record affect car insurance?
When you apply for car insurance, the company looks at your driving record to decide how much to charge you and what coverage to offer. If you've had a lot of speeding tickets or accidents in the past, they'll probably charge you more because they think you're more likely to have another accident. Small things like minor traffic violations might not make your insurance go up as much as a big accident would.
How long do violations stay on your driving record?
Each states have different rules about how long they keep these things on file. Usually, minor stuff like speeding tickets disappears from your record after 3-5 years. But if it's something big like causing an accident or getting caught for drunk driving, it might stay on there for much longer.
